vision & challenges:
- create sense of larger floor plan
- match new cabinetry and detailing to existing arts and crafts style sideboard
- incorporate all natural finishes in design – oak, granite, slate and glass tiles
design solutions:
- melded entry and existing table area into overall kitchen
- extended cabinetry full length of back wall; custom made matching doors complete entry closet; 1 x 2 brick glass backsplash complements and highlights dark granite countertop
- created balance and flow between rooms with use of large format slate tile
- relocated kitchen sink to create larger work area and re–situated fridge to create better balance visually and physically
- created flex-space in previous table area which can now accommodate a two–seater table or reading chair; the niche functions equally well as a bench or art space
