maison d'etre, a Georgie Award Finalist


vision & challenges:

  • expand small, cramped kitchen into over–sized dining room
  • create comfortable yet sophisticated home for family, entertaining

design solutions:

  • removed wall between kitchen and dining room to double kitchen space
  • created two functional work spaces — sink/stove/dishwasher at one end of kitchen; bar area at opposite end for secondary food prep area when entertaining
  • installed solid wood cabinet doors with plywood boxes, soft–touch, self–closing hinges; substantial pullout drawers accommodate all sizes of cookware, kitchen appliances
  • utilized small space between fridge, bar area counter with pullout pantry
  • installed solid–surface countertop for easy cleaning
  • maximized ambience with recessed/under cabinet/island lights all with separate switches and dimmers
  • maximized space usage with Magic Corner; recycling centre pullout at end of bar beside sink area and back door
  • designed flexible bench/seating area by rear door with briefcase, shoe, yoga mat, storage beneath; large entry closet next to rear door for coats and additional storage
  • replaced existing 80’s, malfunctioning in–ceiling heat panels with heated tile floor
